Ayurveda for Women
Every woman should try to make Ayurveda her style statement because Ayurveda has a multifaceted approach towards female health. Ayurveda has a special section on women diseases called ‘Stree-Roga’ which has a profound approach in understanding the functions of a woman’s physicality and mentality and this comes to her aid as a divine grace in the times when she needs it the most.It understands that every age has its varying needs. As per Ayurveda any disruption in monthly cycle or hormones are governed by Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Imbalance of these doshas cause the symptoms. The general problems faced by women are regarding their cycles ie. dysmenorrhoea (pain during periods), amenorrhoea, menorrhagia, meterorrhagia, menopause, leucorrhoea ,etc besides others like cysts tumours and innumerable others. Ignoring any of these at any level can be detrimental to health both physically and mentally, and going in staightaway for hormonal treatment or any invasive procedure is definitely not advisable.
Though Ayurveda asserts the need for individualized treatments yet there are a number of herbs which benefit women-health eg. Aloe vera, Ashoka (saraca indica), Ashwagandha (withania somnifera), Shatavari (asperagus racemosus). Every woman should understand the importance of keeping herself fit and healthy because by taking this first step she can refrain herself from going through the undercurrent of many uncalled for psychological as well as physical illnesses.
Ayurveda for Kids
Ayurveda stresses the need of proper child-care in ‘Bala-Roga’ section as this is the foundation stage. This is the stage when ‘Kapha’dosha predominates. So generally we come across problems like recurrent cough, cold, bronchitis, pneumonitis, tonsillitis, etc. But today as per the lifestyle of kids reduced physical activity, increased mental stress and lack of proper nutrition some common symptoms encountered are Occasional headaches, Eye disorders, Behavioural / sleeping disorders, Frequent bouts of pain abdomen, Vomiting sensations off & on, Urination in bed, Frequent bouts of cough and cold, Hair fall / Premature greying of hair, Obesity, Diabetes.
Each and every complaint has its own magnitude E.g.: Obesity. It predisposes many diseases & diminishes efficiency. Obesity in childhood is likely to be followed by obesity in adult life. The child becomes the victim of bullying which affects his psyche but he is unable to express it. This leads to behaviour disorders involuntarily. He enters the vicious cycle of lethargy and overeating along with mood swings and irritation. Solution: The first and the foremost step for lifestyle change is to increase the physical activity of children. Indoor games should be confined to a few weekends. AYURVEDA emphasizes the role of mental health in maintaining physical health. They should be inculcated with the feeling of being healthy & fit. General herbs good for kids are bala (sida cardifolia), ashwagandha (withania somnifera), guduchi (tinospora cardifolia), brahmi (sentalla asiatica).
Ayurveda for IT Professionals
Zero physical activity + excessive mental stress + desk work is the general manta of IT industry today. The results are reflected in various forms as Stress, Depression, Hypertension, Diabetes, Indigestion, Acidity, Anorexia, Constipation, Chronic pain, Fatigue, Reduced immunity, Hair / skin problems, Hormonal imbalances.
As can be observed , human species is the only animal which does not abide by the ‘LAWS OF NATURE’. It can be easily noticed that even our pets do regular stretching exercises and they eat only at proper time (of course only if they are not affected by their master’s lifestyle). Also try to notice the brisk movements of the limbs of an infant after he has had his meal and is playful. These movements are supposed to aid in the process of digestion and metabolism by stimulating blood circulation thus leading to the growth at cellular level in the otherwise immobile infant. Try to imitate the same movements starting with just 5 minutes . Are you able to do it? If yes, then well just continue with it and try to increase the time gradually on daily basis. If no, then just think that an infant does this continuously for hours. All this indicates the necessity of physical activity for every living being. There is a simple rule of ‘USE IT OR LOSE IT’.
Ayurveda considers health to be not merely the absence of disease but as a perfect state of physical, mental & emotional well being. Most of the above mentioned problems can be avoided through simple modifications done in their lifestyles, diet and use of recommended herbs. Ashwagandha (withania somnifera), brahmi (sentalla asiatica), shankhpushpi (convolvus pleuricalis) are good for managing stress. It is beyond the scope of this section to take up the details but the one of the basic things to be remembered is to try receiving the signals sent to you by your own bodies because the body regularly sends you messages in various forms about what to do and what all to avoid. Just be receptive towards nature!
